Rural Research

At Research First, we specialise in research in the agricultural sector and in researching with rural audiences. Research First has undertaken a large number of research projects in rural communities.

Research First frequently uses telephone surveys to research farmers and rural audiences. This method is often preferred by clients because it provides a very cost effective method for researching with large geographically dispersed populations. In addition, by using probability sampling methods, the results of telephone surveys can be extrapolated to those populations with a high degree of accuracy. However, conventional telephone survey approaches need to be adapted to meet the needs of farmers and work successfully with rural audiences. For instance, it is critical that:

  1. The timing of the calls is sensitive to seasonal and daily demands of different kinds of farmers, and
  2. The caller understands the nature of the farming business.

For those research projects where a survey may not be the most appropriate approach, Research First also offers Farmer's Panels and Targeted Qualitative research.
